Architect // October 2018
We needed to design a produce suitable chairs to seat over 200 visitors to the restaurant. The design needed to fit in with their architecture and fittings in the building as well as to be able to withstand the rigors of very high commercial use… they also had to be light, comfortable and affordable.
unique problems
Need to look like designer chairs with the right comfort and meet the customers very tight budget.
The main chair selected was the Paindane Slim – Rope weave back. These were the high volume seating chairs – with the Khumbula upholstered seat chair making up the more high value special seating chair…
woods used and finishes
Wood selected was Blackwood due to the sustainability aspect – IE – utilizing invasive species especially in a very sensitive conservation area – it sent the right message and had the right story to tell
Finish was in the water based Rystix – mainly for durability in the high wear environment
Weaving on the back of the Paindane chairs done is various BRIGHT rope colours to celebrate and highlight our African heritage.
Upholstery done in bright Cool Hide from Hertex – which is a cost effective but VERY durable leather substitute fabric – perfect for the application
