Why Homewood? Thoughtfully Crafted Furniture for Your Home

t’s the place you come home to relax in after a long day. A world that you create for yourself, where each corner, wooden finish, or decorative doorknob says something about who you are.

When you make a real investment for your home, one that’s going to last you a lot longer than your latest Temu order, you want to be sure that you’re making the right choice.

Homewood originals are more than “just” furniture. They’re timeless originals built to last, and we thought we’d share a bit more about why it’s the right move to put your trust in us

What does this really mean? Answer: We can make adaptations (where structurally possible). Our design team adjusts depending on your needs, whether it’s starting a piece from scratch using your unique vision as inspiration or modifying one of our popular designs to fit perfectly within your home’s aesthetic.

If you’re considering making a custom order, you can find out more about the process here.

Our furniture is sustainable: But really, (no greenwashing here)

It’s a part of our mission at Homewood to make a positive impact on the environment and we’ve put a lot of thought into how we can make ethical furniture from start to finish.

The woods that we offer aren’t just there for the aesthetic (although, that’s a definite plus). They are all alien invasive woods, carefully chosen to speed up their removal in indigenous environments.

Beyond this, we’ve dug even deeper into our business procedures, extending our eco-vision to our everyday operations and ensuring that our factories are solar powered to reduce our carbon footprint.

These are just a few strategies we’ve put in place to create an eco-conscious workspace. Find out a bit more about our sustainability initiatives.

Homewood is proudly local, through and through

Each artisanal piece is handcrafted at our factory in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, where we hire locally and focus on upskilling our team to develop their craft.

“Our love of the environment starts with us, the employees of Homewood. All of us enjoy the outdoors and it’s this that creates the desire to protect it … I think.”

Ian Perry

Our founder, Ian Perry, has always seen the value in building community, which is why supporting local remains at the heart of Homewood today.

These core beliefs carry through to the way the team crafts each furniture piece, by hand and with intention.

Uniquely crafted by hand

When you invest in a Homewood, odds are you won’t ever walk into a friend’s home and spot the exact same dining table as yours.

We don’t replace people with machines, because our process is rooted in tradition and we’re passionate about the ancient craft of carpentry. Every unique piece is handmade with care by our skilled creative team and the strong human presence in our process ensures no two are truly the same.

If you want more than just furniture, and instead a timeless artisanal piece with a story you can be part of, explore our custom furniture options in Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal, or Cape Town.
