Reintroducing the Plantation Teak & European Oak: Growing Homewood’s Solid Wood Selection
We don’t just “source” materials at Homewood. We’re always looking for new ways to expand our range and we’re proud to reintroduce two new materials to our collection: Homewood’s Plantation Teak and European Oak.
Our workshop has always focused on producing quality custom wood furniture in South Africa, but our goal has never been to make the same product over and over again. Every Homewood piece is unique, and each textural wave holds its own character. Reintroducing Plantation Teak and European Oak to Homewood’s selection, was a natural choice, these timbers ensure substance over shortcuts, timelessness over trends and true craftsmanship over convenience.
Built on a Foundation of Sustainable Materials & Quality Craftsmanship
If it’s going to live in your home for years to come, surely it should have real value and meaning behind it? From the very beginning, we’ve demonstrated a commitment to sourcing solid wood furniture made from alien and invasive timbers. Like all Homewood materials, these two timbers are FSC approved. This means we adhere to strict standards ensuring all materials are sourced responsibly, from committing to safe working conditions, to sourcing local, alien invasive woods. We’ve made a promise to source quality materials and we’re always looking for new ways to ensure sustainable craftsmanship. We’ve made it our mission to transform invasive trees threatening local eco-systems in South Africa into handmade wooden furniture pieces.
Why Homewood Is Expanding Its Timber Range
Whether you just bought your first house, or you’re looking for furniture for your business, if you’re online searching for artisanal furniture, you’re naturally expecting quality craftsmanship. For our partners, especially in the hospitality industry, custom wood furniture projects demand durability. While these timbers are not alien invasive species, they are plantation-grown and sustainably managed and FSC approved, selected specifically for structural integrity and responsible sourcing. Our team sees this as an opportunity for authentic evolution of materials for Homewood.Â
Homewood’s Plantation Teak Furniture
Plantation Teak solid wood is known for its resistance to moisture and continued stability in fluctuating climates, making it one of the most reliable hardwoods in premium furniture manufacturing. Its warm golden-brown hue deepens with age, developing character over time and, of course, as our founder, Ian Perry always says, “there’s no better timber for outdoor furniture than Plantation Teak.” So, if you’re looking for a patio furniture set, or the perfect sunlounger – Plantation Teak is your best bet!
Homewood European Oak Furniture
During recent travels through Eastern Europe, Ian visited a third-generation oak sawmill and stayed in homes centuries old, many constructed almost entirely from oak.
The whole experience reminded Perry of Homewood’s philosophy:
When you invest in time, the outcome is favourable.
European Oak is the kind of wood that holds real character in each distinct wave and grain of wood and tells a story as it ages over time, as we’re so excited to be offering it at Homewood again. Lately, everyone seems to be falling back in love with that old-world European charm (elegant, romantic and just a little bit dramatic) and the return of European Oak feels like perfect timing.
Homewood: Evolving for Those Who Think Long-Term
Reintroducing Plantation Teak and European Oak into Homewood’s offerings is not about chasing trends, but rather expanding options for businesses and furniture connoisseurs across South Africa who understand that custom wood furniture is an investment.
